Here’s one of my favorite things to use that doesn’t cost anything –except spray paint which you probably already have.
Do you have any Nandina plants, commonly called Heavenly Bamboo?
This plant happens to be right outside the door. Sometimes Thistle & I go out to check out the “backyard”, we muse over the stream and check out the birds. The Nandina caught my attention, you can easily break off last years twiggy things, some still had little red round berries. Don’t eat the berries! Eventually the berries fall off, the ends dry and stay on the bush forever. I sprayed some a pale green to put with some dried hydrangeas. They looked great & gave some lightness to the arrangement. Then for Christmas, I sprayed them a lime green to use on my little Christmas tree at home. I mixed them with fake White Calla lilies, other fine gold trim and lime green & gold assorted thin ribbon. It took 20 min to decorate the tree and 15 min to take it down.
Here at Loose Ends, I just finished our ” Easter Tree” and I’ve sprayed bunches of the Nandina twigs with pale lavender, pale blue and pale yellow. They would be wonderful just in a vase with fake eggs glued on! The sprayed twiggy things are a great filler flower, just like “Baby’s Breath”.
You can find all kinds of natural material outside and with a little spray paint or metallic paint, they are great to tuck in almost any where. So, before you do your garden Spring clean up & trimming, take another look at last years growth in a new way.

I love your idea of using the nandina twigs! You certainly have an artist’s eye when it comes to seeing the design possibilities in items provided by Mother Nature. I would not have seen it for myself. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Thank you so much! Sometimes it’s just looking around for what I can use. Immediately I start thinking how I can change it with paint, paper, with attachments, wrapping or recycling.
I hope you’ve found some great uses for found things in your own yard!
